Charles Snowden Journalism of Excellence Program Intern – 2025
I am honored to be the first student from Lane Community College selected for the 2025 Charles Snowden Journalism of Excellence Program, a competitive statewide internship for students who demonstrate strong reporting skills, ethical commitment, and a passion for journalism. As part of this program, I have been placed at the Columbia Gorge News, where I will spend the summer reporting in a professional newsroom and continuing to grow as a journalist.

Honored as a Coca-Cola Bronze Scholar by the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team, a national program recognizing high-achieving students who excel academically and lead beyond the classroom. Only 50 students are selected nationwide for each category — Gold, Silver, and Bronze. I was awarded a national scholarship as part of this recognition

Winner In MECCA's Object Afterlife Challenge|Eugene Oregon| October 2024
In June 2024, I participated in MECCA's Object Afterlife Challenge in Eugene, Oregon, where over 100 contestants were given bags of mystery recycled materials to create a unique art piece. My material was a collection of vintage colored stamps, which I used to craft my piece titled The Ballad of Young Ms. Frankenstein. In October 2024, my work was selected as one of the grand prize winners, a recognition that highlighted my ability to transform unconventional materials into meaningful art. This experience reinforced my passion for creative storytelling and sustainability in art.

Current Positions and Roles

I Manage all newsroom operations, including production schedules, staff coordination, and first-round content editing. In addition to editorial leadership, I continue to contribute as a reporter and photographer, covering both campus and community stories. The paper’s content, quality, and timely publication are ultimately my responsibility.

Report and photograph community events, arts features, and local news for publication in print and online. Conduct interviews, write articles, and capture visual content that aligns with the paper’s voice and values. Collaborate with staff writers and designers to pitch story ideas, meet deadlines, and contribute to weekly coverage.

The role of the coordinator is varied and includes providing input for department offerings, rules, and policies; identifying judges qualified to evaluate in the department; accepting telephone and email inquiries from exhibitors; and assisting in the layout of the department. Responsibilities also involve soliciting merchants for donor awards, scheduling educational demonstrations and coordinating them with the Fair, and connecting with community organizations to display at the Fair. Additionally, the coordinator schedules and hires department clerks and other staff, utilizing volunteers when possible. They ensure that all entries are correctly categorized in Divisions and Classes and adhere to published entry guidelines, including rejecting entries that do not meet the guidelines. The coordinator displays exhibits, monitors them during the Fair, manages their release, coordinates the judging of exhibits, and provides judging results to the Fair. They ensure the accuracy of placing awards and their distribution while adhering to all general Fair rules and maintaining ethical operations within the department.

In this role, I am responsible for securing media contacts to conduct interviews with music artists and review live performances.
My primary focus is on alternative and rock music, with occasional coverage of music-related news. My work with The Music
Box Media is not restricted to a specific city or state—I cover any musical events I can attend and write about.

Represented my chapter at Phi Theta Kappa’s premier annual Catalyst conference, a national gathering dedicated to leadership, academic achievement, and professional growth. The event featured workshops, keynote speakers, and networking sessions designed to inspire and connect PTK scholars from across the country.

Attended the annual SPJ Region 10 Conference, representing Lane Community College as Editor-in-Chief of The Torch. Participated in professional development workshops focused on newsroom leadership, multimedia journalism, and advanced Google tools for reporting and collaboration.

Represented Lane Community College as a student leader at this day-long conference focused on inclusive leadership and community building. Attended sessions on resilience, marketing strategies, non-hierarchical decision-making, and cross-campus collaboration.

At the 3-day, OSLAP Student Leadership Conference in Monmouth, Oregon, in August 2024, I gained valuable skills in parliamentary procedure, student engagement, voting procedures, and group management. This experience equipped me with tools to lead effectively, foster inclusive student participation, and streamline decision-making processes, all of which have enhanced my ability to serve in leadership roles at Lane Community College.
